De Transit Custom PHEV maakt gebruik van twee afzonderlijke krachtbronnen. Een elektrische motor met accu drijft het voertuig aan, terwijl de 1,0 liter Ford EcoBoost-benzinemotor de hybride accu oplaadt en het bereik van het voertuig uitbreidt tot wel 500 km. De bestuurder kan kiezen uit drie beschikbare EV-modi, waaronder EV Now, waarmee je zonder uitstoot op elektrisch vermogen tot een beoogde actieradius van 43 km (WLTP) kunt rijden. De PHEV-accu kan ook worden opgeladen via openbare laadpunten.
